And it begins…

So, its been two days in Mito and I have to say, I absolutely love it! I know.. I’m jumping the gun and I should probably give it a month or two before this can be a genuine statement but I honestly have zero complaints.

Ill start with take off….

It didn’t happen. Instead, after 3 long months of anticipation and preparation, I sat in the airplane and had to wait for 2 hours as maintanence “hastily” tried to fix a communication issue within the plane. It isn’t surprising that United gives such shitty quality of service but I mean… really, 2 hours on the runway just sitting there? Couldn’t they have just abandoned ship after 20 mins? Well, that’s neither here or there. We were then ushered back to the gate where we awaited another plane to whisk us off to Japan… that is, after we waited another hour whilst they scrambled together to find a half ass flight crew. Okay, I’m definitely not bitter because at least our plane didn’t crash and burn but that possibly had to be the worst flighing experience of my life and I’m not exaggerating either; the inflight movies were awful, the food was terrible, and we experienced turbulance through most of our flight.

Finally, 3 hours after our original arrival time (8pm Tokyo time, 4am Pacific) we arrived at Narita, tired, hungry, and exhausted and were greeted with 6 happy, smiling Japanese faces. It still hadn’t hit me that we had reached Tokyo, after all most of Narita is in English and there was hardly any other flights coming in. But it was a great joy to be on the ground, even if it was humid and stick…

TBC!

The japanese love their animals <3

I had a meeting today at school, in which we spoke about various things about our stay in Japan. But this seemed to leave a vivid memory in my head.

Fuck.

4 days.

I can feeeeeeel it!

With five days left before my journey towards the Rising sun begins, I have finally put time away to create one of these things. I feel the need to document those nights that I won’t remember, the Engrish phrases that tickle my fancy, or the most peculiar outfits that I’ve seen that day. For those of you who may not not know (or not care) I’ll be spending a semester in Ibaraki, Japan at Tokiwa University. Considering most (including Japan natives) don’t know where Ibaraki is, it’s #8 on the map below:

And so, for the mysterious, adventures, and heartaches that like before me, I only ask that you leave me with memories that I can tell my grandchildren one day… minus the ronchy night at a love hotel in osaka…
